HISTORIC SURVEY OF SYMPOSIA ON
 "ENERGY METABOLISM IN FARM ANIMALS"

1956: During a meeting in Berlin between professor K. Nehring, Rostock, and Dr. G. Thorbek, Copenhagen, the idea was conceived to arrange a meeting between the scientists who had resumed measurements of the energy metabolism of domestic animals. For political reasons, it was not possible to arrange such a meeting in Rostock at the time. However, Copenhagen, where there was a tradition of energy measurements, might be a possibility.

1957: At a meeting in Paris, this idea was discussed with professor A.-M. Leroy, President of the European Association for Animal Production (EAAP), who suggested that the activity should be incorporated as an EAAP activity. The suggestion was submitted to the National Institute of Animal Science in Copenhagen (NIAS) and the Ministry of Agriculture, who approved the arrangement of a meeting in Copenhagen in 1958. The expenses should be covered by NIAS, and the Ministry hosted a dinner at Christiansborg (seat of the Danish Government).
